Voter Falloff in Statewide Elections

Attorney General-elect Jay Jones ran 4.4 points behind Governor-elect Abigail Spanberger, the largest gap between a winning Gubernatorial candidate and that party's nominee for Attorney General since Mark Warner was elected Governor in 2001. That year the Democratic candidate for Attorney General, Don McEachin, lost to Republican Jerry Kilgore. See how this compares to recent elections for Attorney General and Lt. Governor, and compare the 2025 falloff across localities.

* In 2021 Mark Warner (D) won the gubernatorial election with 52.2% of the vote, but the democratic candidate for Attorney General, future U.S. Representative Don McEachin, lost with only 39.9% of the vote.

Notes: Percentage point difference in vote share between the winning gubernatorial candidate, and the Lt. Governor, or Attorney General candidate from the same party in that election.
