Change in Regional Voting for Governor

As Virginia's population has changed, so have the voting patterns for each party. In recent decades, Northern Virginia has continued to grow as a share of Democratic votes, while Southwest and Southside Virginia have fallen off. Meanwhile, Republicans have grown their share of votes in the Valley and Piedmont regions, while maintaining their votes in Southwest and Southside.
