New Donors in Governor's Race
The candidates for governor this year continue to attract more new donors than past candidates since 2013, as of August 31 in each election year.
- New Donors: Donors who have never given to a Virginia state candidate or PAC prior to the donations included here.
- Lapsed Donors: Donors who last gave to a Virginia state candidate or PAC more than five years prior to the donation included here.
- Regular Donors: Donors who have given to a Virginia state candidate or PAC in the last five years.
Notes:
Based on itemized donations reported on Sch. A (cash contributions), Sch. B (in-kind contributions of goods or services), and Sch. E (loans). Virginia only requires candidates and PACs to report itemized donations, with the names of donors, for those who give $100 or more to a candidate or PAC during an election cycle. Donations under that amount are not itemized, so it is possible that some donors listed as "lapsed" or "new" have previously given smaller donations that are not listed by name.
Includes donations to both the candidate campaign committee, and any leadership PACs controlled by the candidate.
Donations through August 31st of the year of the gubernatorial election. Only includes Democratic and Republican candidates who qualified for the November ballot.
Based on campaign finance reports filed with the Virginia Dept. of Elections. Does not include any donations to federal candidates (President, U.S. House, U.S. Senate), which are subject to different laws and are reported to the FEC.
