Partisan Power in House Committees

In the House of Delegates, the partisan makeup of legislative committees is roughly proportional to a party's representation in the chamber. Democratic delegates now hold 64 of 100 House seats. The 22-member legislative committees reflect a similar percentage, changing from 12D and 10R last year to 15D and 7R this year, giving Democrats a greater than 2-to-1 advantage.

The chart below shows how partisan power has shifted in each House committee. See our recent visual for more information on 2026 committee membership.

Note: Updated January 27, 2026. Standing committees have 22 members, except for Rules which has 18 including the Speaker of the House. Committee membership set by Rule 16(a) of the 2026-2027 Rules of the House of Delegates.
